Most AI video generators give credits back when a generation ends in an error, but almost none refund a video that finishes and simply comes out wrong. Kling, Higgsfield and OpenArt return credits for failed runs, with "usually" or "in most cases" attached to two of them; Runway only returns credits for a generation error; Pollo AI and Magnific do not publish a clear rule. Below is what each official policy says, checked on November 4, 2026.
We only used each company's own help center, terms and pricing pages, and we quote their rules rather than user reviews. Policies change often, so treat this as a snapshot and check the current page before you rely on a detail.
What counts as a failed generation?
Platforms tend to mean three different things when they talk about a run going wrong, and their policies treat them very differently:
- The run errors out or returns nothing. The job stops with an error message, times out, or finishes without a file.
- The run is blocked by moderation. A safety filter on the platform or at the model provider stops the job, sometimes by mistake.
- The run finishes, but the result is not what you asked for. The video has the wrong aspect ratio or length, the audio is missing, or the scene ignores part of the prompt.
The first case is the one most refund rules cover. The third is where most of the frustration sits, because a completed run is normally treated as delivered, whatever it looks like.

Which AI video generators refund failed generations?
| Platform | Run errors or returns nothing | Run finishes but looks wrong | Where it is written |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kling | Credits refunded if the generation fails | No rule published | Credits Policy |
| Higgsfield | Usually refunded automatically within minutes; some models may not refund | No rule published | Help center, credits article |
| OpenArt | Refunded automatically in most cases | Completed generations generally not refunded | Help center |
| Runway | Returned only when the run ends in a generation error | Credits consumed even if the result does not match the prompt | Help center |
| Pollo AI | No written rule; the FAQ says to check usage history and contact support | No rule published | FAQ |
| Magnific | Not published on the pages we could open | No rule published | Not available |
Kling's Credits Policy is the most direct: credits are deducted when the generation starts and refunded if it fails. Higgsfield's help center says the refund is normally automatic and lands within a few minutes, but adds that specific models might not refund credits for failed generations. OpenArt says credits are refunded automatically in most cases, and asks you to contact support with the generation ID if they do not appear.
Runway draws the line most clearly. Its help center says credits are only returned automatically when a generation ends in a generation error, and that a completed generation consumes credits even if it does not match the prompt, does not preserve a likeness or is otherwise unsatisfactory. Pollo AI's FAQ answers the question "my video generation failed, but my credits were still deducted" by asking you to check your credit usage history first and then contact support. For Magnific, the official help pages were not accessible to us, and its terms and pricing page do not mention failed generations.
Do AI video generators refund results that look wrong?
Generally not. Runway puts it plainly: credits pay for the generation process, not the quality of the output. OpenArt says that because generation costs are incurred at the time of creation, it generally cannot refund completed generations. None of the six policies we read offers a refund for a finished video that is off-prompt.
There is a useful distinction here between results that are subjectively disappointing and results that are measurably wrong. Whether a camera move looks cinematic is a matter of taste. Whether a clip you ordered at 9:16 came back at 16:9, or whether a 10-second request returned 5 seconds, can be checked against the settings you submitted. On most platforms both cases are treated the same way: the run completed, so the credits are spent.
What happens when moderation blocks a run?
This depends on where the block happens. Higgsfield says credits for generations flagged by moderation are returned automatically for most models, and that support can return credits for a confirmed false positive, although the classifier decision itself cannot be reversed. Pollo AI's FAQ explains that an error ending in "Credits refunded" usually means the uploaded text or images triggered its content filters.
Where the block happens matters. A job stopped before the model starts has used no compute, so there is little reason to keep the credits. A job the model provider runs and then refuses may still be billed by that provider, and a platform can pass that charge on. Read the note under the Generate button or in the model's details before you submit sensitive edits, and check your credit history afterwards.
How can you avoid wasting credits on a bad run?
- Start with the shortest duration and a lower resolution, and only scale up once the idea works.
- Change one instruction at a time, so you know which change helped or hurt.
- Check the price shown before you generate, especially after switching models or turning sound on.
- Read the model's limits: some cap duration, some ignore negative instructions, some only support certain aspect ratios.
- Look at your credit history after each run. A failed run should show its credits coming back; if not, contact support while the generation ID is fresh.
- Keep a note of the settings you used, because a support team can only check a claim against what you actually submitted.
How does PopNow handle failed and wrong-size runs?
PopNow covers both of the cases most policies leave open, through PopNow Protect:
- Failed? Full refund, automatically. If a run fails on our side or the model provider's, returns nothing, or is stopped by our own check before it starts, the credits go back to your balance automatically. The one exception is a content refusal that the provider still charges for, and the model page says so before you start.
- Wrong size or length? Full refund within one business day. After a run, we compare the result with your settings: aspect ratio, duration, resolution, number of images and whether audio is present. If it does not match, our team reviews it and refunds that run; if a batch returns fewer images than you paid for, the missing ones are refunded. Anything that cannot be measured is not judged either way.
- Too slow? 20% back. Models with enough history show a guaranteed time before you submit. If the run takes longer, 20% of what you paid comes back automatically as bonus credits, up to a monthly limit.
What Protect does not do is refund a video simply because you do not like it. A prompt the model interprets differently from what you pictured is still a completed run, on PopNow as elsewhere, which is why the tips above still matter. To try the same prompt on several models before you commit, open the video generator, and see our comparison page for how prices and guarantees line up across platforms.

FAQ
Do AI video generators charge for failed generations?
Most return credits when a run ends in an error. Kling says so outright, Higgsfield and OpenArt return them automatically in most cases, and Runway returns them only for a generation error. Pollo AI and Magnific do not publish a clear rule.
Does Runway refund credits for bad results?
No. Runway's help center says a completed generation consumes credits even if it does not match the prompt or is otherwise unsatisfactory. Only a run that ends in a generation error has its credits returned automatically.
Does Kling refund failed generations?
Yes. Kling's Credits Policy says credits are deducted when the generation starts and refunded if the generation fails. It does not describe refunds for a completed video you are unhappy with.
What should I do if my credits were not returned after a failure?
Check the credit usage history first, then contact the platform's support with the generation ID, the time and the model. Most teams can only verify a claim against their own logs, so send the details soon after the run.
Does PopNow refund a video I just don't like?
No. PopNow refunds failed runs automatically and refunds runs that do not match your settings after a review, but a finished video that matches your settings is a completed run.
