About Ink Wash
Ink Wash turns your subject into a brush painting in the East Asian ink tradition, often called sumi-e: black ink diluted into every grey between paper white and deep black, a few confident strokes that suggest far more than they draw, the soft fibers of rice paper, and a great deal of empty space that is as important as the ink.
It is at its best with nature and quiet subjects: bamboo in wind, a heron in reeds, a lone fisherman on a river, a cat on a garden wall, mountains in mist, a lighthouse on a rocky point. People work well too when they are part of a landscape rather than a close-up.
Use it for posters, tattoo and logo sketches, book covers, calm wall art and anything that needs a timeless, minimal image. Because it is monochrome, it prints beautifully on any paper.
Subjects to paste as they are: “a lone fisherman in a small boat on a misty river”, “a heron standing among tall reeds”, “a pine tree on a rocky cliff in the wind”. Nature and small figures in wide space are where ink painting feels most at home.
Finishes that work on top: Soft glow adds a gentle mist between the strokes. Golden hour has little effect on a monochrome painting, and the Black & white finish is disabled because it would repeat the style.
Tips
- Think in landscapes: mountains, rivers, pines, mist. Small figures in a big space are classic.
- Name one bold element for the strongest stroke — a branch, a rock, a bird.
- Do not ask for color. The style is monochrome by design, and the Black & white finish is disabled here.
- Tall frames suit the style best; keep 2:3 unless you need a banner.
- Weather words carry the mood: mist, drizzle, falling snow and wind all translate naturally into brushwork.
What the style adds
Your words go where it says “your subject”. Everything else is added for you.
your subject, monochrome ink-wash painting, expressive brush strokes, graded ink tones from pale grey to deep black, rice-paper texture, generous empty space

Questions about Ink Wash
Can I use Ink Wash on my own photo?
Yes. Switch to “My photo” at the bottom, drop in a picture you have the right to use, and the style redraws it while keeping the composition and pose.
How much does one Ink Wash image cost?
29 credits for one 1K image on Seedream 5.0 Flash. 2K costs more, and the button shows the exact price before you run it.
Does it change the people I describe?
No. It sets the medium — ink, brush and paper — and never describes faces, bodies or who someone is.
Is this the same as calligraphy?
No. It is ink painting. If you add text to your subject, results vary; the style is built for images, not lettering.
Why so much empty space?
Empty space is part of the composition in ink painting. It gives the strokes room to breathe.
Can I use it for a logo or tattoo sketch?
As a sketch, yes. Describe one simple subject on an empty background and you get a clean brush study you can trace or refine. For final artwork, redraw it by hand or in vector.
