Hook Checker reads the first seconds of a short video and tells you how likely viewers are to keep watching. You get a viral potential score, a hook score, an attention curve with the moments people are likely to swipe away, and a short list of fixes. It is free, and the video is analyzed without being uploaded.
Step 1: Open Hook Checker
Open Hook Checker. Add a video on the left — only the first 60 seconds are checked — or press Try this one on an example.

Step 2: Read the report
The report opens with three numbers: Viral potential, Hook score and how many viewers are likely to stay past three seconds. Below them, the attention curve marks the moments where interest dips, and five parts — Visual, Clarity, Curiosity, Words and Pace — each get a score and a note.

Step 3: Pick where you post and check
Choose where the video will run — TikTok, Reels, Shorts or Ad — so the report fits that platform, then press Check my hook.

How to fix a weak hook
- Move the payoff to frame one. Starting on black or a static shot costs the most viewers.
- Add words in the first second. A caption or spoken line tells viewers why to stay.
- Cut the slow start. If nothing moves for two seconds, trim it.
- Remake the opening with Create video or a one-tap effect, then check again.
FAQ
Is Hook Checker free?
Yes. Checking a hook costs no credits.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The page reads the first 60 seconds of your video without uploading the file.
Does a high score guarantee views?
No. It estimates how well the opening holds attention, based on patterns that work on each platform. Use it to compare versions of the same video.
