What is the video background remover?
It cuts the people out of a video frame by frame and removes everything behind them, with no green screen needed. You get a transparent video master you can put on any background.
Try transparent, a solid color, chroma green, a blurred version of the original background, one of six ready-made scenes or your own image. Switching backgrounds happens in your browser and never costs extra.
How to remove the background from a video
- Upload your videoMP4, MOV or WebM up to 60 seconds.
- Remove the backgroundAI cuts out the person in every frame and keeps the original sound.
- Pick a background and exportDownload a transparent WebM, a green screen MP4 or an MP4 with your new background.
Why it's different
- One cutout, any background. Change the background as often as you like without running it again.
- Real transparency. The master is a WebM with an alpha channel that video editors import directly.
- Every format you need. Transparent WebM, green screen MP4 and a finished MP4, all from the same result.
- Check the edges. Compare mode shows the original next to the cutout on the same frame.
What people use it for
- Talking heads. Put yourself in front of a clean studio, your product or a slide.
- Dance and fitness clips. Move a routine from the living room to a beach or a city street.
- Editing projects. Layer the transparent cutout over titles, B-roll or effects in your editor.
- Privacy. Blur or replace a messy room or an office you'd rather not show.
Tips for clean edges
- A clear contrast between the person and the background gives the crispest edges.
- Keep the whole person in frame; cut-off limbs at the edge are fine, but fast blur can soften hair.
- Pick a scene with light from the same side as your video for a natural look.
- Use the transparent WebM when you edit; use the MP4 with background when you post straight away.
How it works
Video Background Remover finds the people in each frame and writes a transparent WebM master (VP9 with an alpha channel) the same length as your clip, with the original sound if you keep it. The preview decodes that master in your browser and draws it over the background you pick, frame by frame. MP4 exports are encoded on your device from the same frames, so what you see is what you download.
How many credits does it take?
Removing the background costs 60 credits per second of video on Video Background Remover: about 600 credits for a 10-second clip and 3600 credits for the longest 60-second clip. Trying backgrounds and exporting are free.
Use it on your own videos
Cut out footage you recorded or have the rights to use. Don't place real people into scenes that misrepresent them, and follow the platform rules wherever you post.
Questions
Is the video background remover free?+
Previewing backgrounds and exporting are free. Removing the background costs 60 credits per second of video, about 600 credits for a 10-second clip.
Do I need a green screen?+
No. It works on ordinary footage. A clear contrast between the person and the background gives the cleanest edges.
Can I get a transparent video?+
Yes. Download the transparent WebM: it has an alpha channel that CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, After Effects and web pages can use.
My app doesn't support transparent video. What should I use?+
Export the green screen MP4 and use your app's chroma key, or export an MP4 with the background already in place.
How long can my video be?+
Up to 60 seconds per video in MP4, MOV or WebM. For longer footage, cut it into parts.
Is the original audio kept?+
Yes, by default. Turn it off in More options if you only need the picture.
Can I change the background after it's done?+
Yes, as often as you like. Backgrounds are applied in your browser to the same cutout, so it never costs extra.
Does it work with hair and fast motion?+
It follows the person frame by frame, including hair and quick movement. Fine flyaway hair and heavy motion blur are the hardest parts; a sharp clip with good light and clear contrast gives the cleanest edges.
