GPT Image 2 vs Nano Banana 2: Same Prompts, Both Results

In our side-by-side test both models spelled every word of a three-line poster correctly. GPT Image 2 followed the brief more literally: it kept the sentence case we asked for, drew one tidy illustration and gave the candid photo a warm, shallow-focus polish. Nano Banana 2 took more liberties, setting the small print in capitals, adding a paper border and produce we didn't ask for, and staging a busier, more lived-in garage. Pick GPT Image 2 when the wording and layout must match the brief; pick Nano Banana 2 for quick 0.5K drafts, very wide banners and edits that pull from up to 14 reference images.

GPT Image 2 is OpenAI's image model, known for spelling text correctly and for precise masked edits. Nano Banana 2 is Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash Image model, built for speed, with sizes from a 0.5K draft up to 4K, up to 14 reference images and optional web or image search. GPT Image 2 vs Nano Banana 2 on the same prompts

Each prompt went to both models once at 1K, GPT Image 2 on medium quality: the market poster and garage photo on one afternoon, the JELLY FEST poster in a later session at 3:4. Render times include the queue.

Round 1 · Poster with exact text

A risograph-style poster for a neighborhood farmers market. Large headline text: "SATURDAY MARKET". Below it, smaller text: "Fresh bread · Local honey · 8am–1pm". Illustrated pears, sunflowers and a wicker basket in mustard, teal and coral ink on cream paper, slight print grain, clean layout with generous margins.

Nano Banana 2: Poster with exact text
Nano Banana 2 1K · 2:3Precio: 9 créditosTardó unos 71 sPruébalo con Nano Banana 2

Both spelled “SATURDAY MARKET” and the second line correctly. GPT Image 2 kept “Fresh bread · Local honey · 8am–1pm” in sentence case and drew only pears, sunflowers and a basket. Nano Banana 2 switched that line to capitals, added a deckled paper edge and filled the basket with vegetables we never mentioned.

Round 2 · Candid photo of two people

Candid 35mm photo in a sunny, cluttered home garage: a man in his seventies with deep brown skin and a short gray beard tunes a vintage blue road bike while his adult daughter in denim overalls hands him a wrench, both laughing. Dust floating in the window light, shallow depth of field, natural skin texture, warm afternoon tones.

Both kept the people we described: a man in his seventies with a gray beard and his adult daughter in overalls, mid-laugh. GPT Image 2 went for a tight, warm, magazine-style frame with soft background blur. Nano Banana 2 pulled back to show the whole workshop, with a tool wall and a bike on a repair stand, and printed a real-looking brand name on the frame, which we blurred for this page.

Round 3 · Typography poster with exact text

Photograph of a bold typographic event poster pasted on a sunlit concrete wall: giant chunky rounded letters "JELLY FEST" in tangerine and cobalt, a subtitle "SUMMER PARADE — 08.08" in a clean grotesk typeface, layered with cut-out stickers of wobbling jelly cubes, iridescent soap bubbles and cherries, halftone riso-print texture, lemon-yellow and lilac color blocks; harsh afternoon sun casts a diagonal shadow across the poster. Editorial graphic design, crisp legible text, no logos, no brand names.

Both spelled “JELLY FEST” and “SUMMER PARADE — 08.08” without a slip. GPT Image 2 put the title in tangerine over cobalt as asked, drew true cube-shaped jellies and added no words of its own, though it set a couple of title letters in lower case and the sun's diagonal shadow barely shows. Nano Banana 2 made both title words orange with only a blue outline, invented four extra lines of event copy such as “1PM TILL LATE” and “DOWNTOWN SQUARE”, and swapped the cubes for jelly moulds.

Lo que notamos

Text in the image
Neither model misspelled a word. The difference was obedience: GPT Image 2 reproduced the capitalisation and punctuation exactly as written, while Nano Banana 2 restyled the small line in capitals. If a client signs off wording letter by letter, that matters more than the illustration.
Sticking to the brief
GPT Image 2 drew what the prompt listed and little else. Nano Banana 2 added things that fit the theme, like extra vegetables, a mock-up paper border and a wall of tools. That's useful on a mood board and extra work when you need a clean asset.
Photo look
GPT Image 2 produced a polished, flattering, stock-photo look. Nano Banana 2 looked more like a real snapshot: wider, busier, flatter light and far more background detail. Hands holding the wrench came out natural on both.
Speed in our run
Both returned a 1K image in a little over a minute, queue included: about 65 to 70 seconds for GPT Image 2 and 70 to 75 for Nano Banana 2. If you're still hunting for an idea, Nano Banana 2's 0.5K size is the quicker way to sweep options.
Sizes and shapes
GPT Image 2 offers 15 aspect ratios up to 21:9 and returns up to ten images in one run. Nano Banana 2 reaches banner shapes as wide as 8:1 and as tall as 1:8, which suits website headers and skyscraper ads.

Consejos de prompt

  1. Put every word that must appear in double quotes, and say how it should be capitalised.
  2. If you want only what you listed, end the prompt with “nothing else in the frame”. It helps Nano Banana 2 most.
  3. For photos, name the camera and the light (35mm, window light, late afternoon). Both models respond to camera language.
  4. Check small print and logos before you publish: either model can invent a brand name on a product.
