Questions

Can I give my own ranking?

Yes. Write five picks from #5 to #1, one per line, and they are used exactly in that order.

Why is there a pause before number one?

That second of suspense is part of the format. The voice waits for it too.

Can I turn the music on?

Yes, under More options. It adds one generated instrumental track.

What should I write if I don't have five ideas yet?

Leave the box blank and the page makes its own example countdown. That is a good way to see how the format looks and sounds, and you can then copy its style for your own list.

Can I use names of friends or family as my picks?

You can write any family-friendly names as text, but the pictures are generated, so they will not look like real people. For a countdown of favorite foods, places or pets the results are usually more convincing.

Why does my video not look like I imagined?

Each picture is generated from your short line, so a vague pick gives a vague image. Make the wording more specific, for example 'chocolate chip cookies' instead of 'dessert', and generate again.

Will the captions work without sound?

Yes. Word-by-word captions are part of the format, so viewers can follow along on mute. It helps to keep each pick short so the captions are easy to read.

How do I make the final video look more polished?

Choose a clear theme, keep the picks short, and save the strongest idea for number one. After the video is made you can resize it or upscale it with other PopNow tools.

Before and after: what changes

You start with a plain list of five picks, one per line, or nothing at all if you let the example run. You end up with a short countdown video with a picture, a big rank number and a spoken line for each pick.

What changes
Your text list becomes a finished video with a narrator, word-by-word captions, a side list that lights up as the countdown moves, and a pause before the final reveal.
What stays the same
The order and wording of your picks. Number five stays number five, and number one stays the last reveal, so the ranking you wrote is the ranking viewers see.
What to look at when you compare
Check that each pick matches its picture, that the rank numbers are in the right order, and that the captions spell your picks the way you wrote them. Also watch how number one is handled compared with the other four.

Lists that work, and lists that don't

Works well

  • Five short, clear picks such as 'Pizza' or 'Beach holidays', because each one has to become a picture and a single spoken line.
  • Picks that belong to one theme, like favorite board games or best road trip snacks, so the video feels like one countdown.
  • Picks that are easy to picture, such as objects, places, animals or foods, since the image for each is generated from your words.

Avoid

  • Fewer or more than five lines, because the format is built around exactly five slots and extra or missing picks will not fit the countdown.
  • Very long sentences on a single line, since each pick gets only one short line of narration and a long entry will be cut down or sound rushed.
  • Abstract or vague picks like 'stuff' or 'things I like', because there is nothing concrete for the picture to show.

Step by step

  1. Open the formatOn the Top 5 Countdown page, go through the three tabs: Pick a format, Make it yours, then Get your video. You are already on the right format if you see the heading Top 5 Countdown Video Maker.
  2. Write your list in orderIn the 'Top 5 what?' box, type your picks from #5 to #1, one per line. Put your favorite on the last line, because that is the one that gets the suspense pause and the reveal.
  3. Check More optionsOpen More options + before you start. This is where you can turn the music on, which adds one generated instrumental track under the narrator.
  4. Check the price, then press Make itLook at the credit total shown on the button before you press it. Failed shots are refunded, so you are only charged for shots that worked.
  5. Review the finished videoWatch it once with sound and once without. Confirm the order is right, the captions match your words, and number one comes to life as expected. If something is off, adjust the wording of that pick and make it again.

How the video is put together

Script & plan
Your five picks are turned into a short plan and one narrated line per pick. This is the cheapest part of the price.
Images and video shots
Each pick gets a generated picture, and number one can come to life as a short video. In the cheapest version it stays a still image, which keeps the cost down.
Code-drawn numbers and side list
The big rank numbers and the lit-up list are drawn in code, not generated, so the numbers stay sharp and always correct.
Voiceover and captions
A narrator reads the script and the captions follow word by word, so the video works with or without sound.
