Introduction
Wan 3.0 Reference to video builds a new 2 to 30 second shot from supplied references: up to ten images, five video clips and five audio clips in one request. At least one of reference_image_urls, reference_video_urls, reference_audio_urls, reference_file_url or reference_link_url must be present, and the prompt is optional. Use it when a face, a garment, a location or a voice has to stay the same across separately rendered shots — something text-to-video cannot do, because it invents a new face on every run. Output is 480p, 720p or 1080p, default 720p.
Choose a Wan 3.0 mode by starting material
| What you have at the start | Mode |
|---|---|
| a written scene or script | Wan 3.0 Text to video |
| an approved opening image | Wan 3.0 Image to video |
| separate visual, motion, or sound references | Wan 3.0 Reference to video |
Key features
Images for identity, wardrobe and sets
reference_image_urls takes 1 to 10 images — character plates, garment plates, set plates — as JPEG, PNG without transparency, BMP or WEBP, 240 to 8000 pixels per side and up to 20 MB each. Name each one in the prompt, or the model averages them into a subject that resembles none of them.
Video for movement, audio for voice
Reference videos carry movement and camera style rather than a face: up to five MP4 or MOV clips, each 1 to 15 seconds and 15 seconds in total, at least 16 fps. Reference audio carries a voice, a line reading or room tone: up to five WAV or MP3 clips, also 15 seconds in total. These limits are checked during generation rather than when the task is accepted, so measure your clips before you submit.
A 30-second budget shared with the output
A 12-second motion reference therefore leaves room for an output of at most 18 seconds. Reference images and reference audio do not count toward that budget.
Request parameters

prompt | No | Describe the subject, action, camera, light, pacing, and boundaries for the shot. |
reference_audio_urls | No | Audio to match: a voice, music or a rhythm. |
reference_file_url | No | One reference document (PDF, DOCX, TXT, MD and similar) that the model reads for characters, wardrobe, setting and action. |
reference_image_urls | No | Pictures of the people, outfits or places the result should keep. |
reference_link_url | No | One public web page the model reads for reference. It must open without a login. |
reference_video_urls | No | Clips whose motion, camera or style the result should follow. |
resolution | No | Output size. Bigger sizes look sharper and cost more. 480p · 720p · 1080p · Default: 720p |
seed | No | Reuse the same number to get a repeatable result. ≥ 0 · ≤ 2147483647 |
Pricing
Prices are in credits, the same credits you use on the website (1 credit = $0.01). The hold is taken when the task is accepted and settled to the actual charge when it finishes; failed tasks are refunded.
| Option | Credits per second | ≈ USD |
|---|---|---|
| resolution 480p | 6.75 | $0.068 |
| resolution 720p | 13.5 | $0.14 |
| resolution 1080p | 27 | $0.27 |
Each task is rounded up to whole credits, so one run at the lowest tier costs 34 credits for a 5-second clip ($0.34).
For an exact number before you run, send the same body to POST /jobs/quote.
Use cases
Re-rendering the same performer in a known room
Image 2 is the room." She then crosses to the window under a slow lateral track, 8 seconds at 720p with seed 771120. Keeping both plates and the seed fixed while changing only the action line is the request shape for episodic work.
A speaker with a matched voice
The monologue example pairs one image plate for the speaker's face and wardrobe with one audio reference for her voice. The prompt keeps those roles apart, then describes a locked medium shot at a kitchen table in morning light, 10 seconds at 720p. Presenters, narrators and recurring characters who must sound the same across takes follow this pattern.
Prompt guide & pro tips
Map every reference before describing the shot
Open the prompt with one sentence per reference — which image is the character, which is the set, what the video or audio is for — then write the scene: subject, one action, one camera move, light and sound. Supply images in the order you refer to them, because "Image 1" and "Image 2" are how the prompt points at them.
Change one thing per rerun
Hold seed and the reference set steady and change one line — the action, the camera move or a single reference — per attempt, so any difference in the result can be traced to that change. Explore at 5 seconds and 720p before committing to a longer or larger render, and check face, wardrobe, setting and voice against their references in every take.
API quick start
Call the Wan 3.0 API in three steps
- Create an API key. Sign in to PopNow and create a key in the API console. Keys start with sk-popnow- and use the same credits as the website.
- Send the request. POST /jobs/createTask with model alibaba/wan-3.0/reference-to-video and an input object that follows the parameter table. The response returns a task ID straight away.
- Get the result. Poll GET /jobs/recordInfo with the task ID, or pass a callBackUrl and we post the result to it. Download the output links when the task succeeds.
# 1. Create the task. Keep the Idempotency-Key if you retry after a network error.
export IDEMPOTENCY_KEY="$(uuidgen)"
curl -X POST https://api.popnow.ai/api/v1/jobs/createTask \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $POPNOW_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: $IDEMPOTENCY_KEY" \
-d '{
"model": "alibaba/wan-3.0/reference-to-video",
"input": {
"prompt": "A slow aerial shot drifting over a misty pine forest at sunrise",
"reference_image_urls": [
"https://media.popnow.ai/influencer/examples/ava.webp"
],
"aspect_ratio": "16:9",
"resolution": "720p",
"duration_seconds": 5
}
}'
# 2. Copy data.taskId from the response, then poll until state is succeeded, failed, canceled or expired.
TASK_ID="TASK_ID_FROM_RESPONSE"
curl "https://api.popnow.ai/api/v1/jobs/recordInfo?taskId=$TASK_ID" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $POPNOW_API_KEY"Replace the prompt and any links with your own. The API tab has the response, polling and callback reference.
Wan 3.0 API questions
How much does the Wan 3.0 API cost?
Wan 3.0 starts at 34 credits ($0.34) for a 5-second clip with Reference to Video, its cheapest task. Prices by option: 480p 6.75 credits per second, 720p 13.5 credits per second, 1080p 27 credits per second. Credits are the same as on the website (1 credit = $0.01), new accounts get 30 free credits, and failed tasks are refunded.
What is the model name for Wan 3.0 in the API?
Put alibaba/wan-3.0/text-to-video for Create Video; alibaba/wan-3.0/image-to-video for Image to Video; alibaba/wan-3.0/reference-to-video for Reference to Video; alibaba/wan-3.0/video-extend for Extend Video in the model field of POST /jobs/createTask.
How long can a Wan 3.0 clip be?
Two to thirty seconds, set with duration_seconds as a whole number. The default is five. Longer clips drift more in identity and geometry, so settle the shot at five seconds first.
Does Wan 3.0 generate audio?
Yes, and it is on by default. Picture and sound come back in one file, already aligned. Set generate_audio to false when you plan to add your own score.
What resolutions does Wan 3.0 support?
480p, 720p and 1080p, defaulting to 720p. If you need 2K or 4K, use Wan 3.0 Pro instead — it publishes a different resolution ladder.
Can I set the first and last frame?
On image-to-video, yes. image_url is the opening frame and last_image_url is optional; supplying both pins where the move starts and where it lands, which is what keeps product geometry readable.
How many reference images does reference-to-video take?
Up to ten images, plus up to five reference videos and five reference audio files. Reference videos are limited to fifteen seconds in total, and so are reference audio files; at least one of the three arrays, a reference file or a web link has to be present, while the prompt is optional.
What are the limits of the Wan 3.0 API?
Clip length: 2–30 s; Resolutions: 480p · 720p · 1080p; Aspect ratios: 16:9 · 9:16 · 1:1 · 4:3 · 3:4 · adaptive; Reference audio: 5; Reference images: 10. Requests outside these limits are rejected before anything is charged.
Can I try Wan 3.0 without writing code?
Yes. The Playground runs Wan 3.0 on your PopNow credits, needs no API key, and shows the matching code for every run.
All Wan models
Wan 3.0 Pro renders the same kinds of shots at 1080p, 2K or 4K for a higher price. Plain Wan 3.0 is the better value for drafts and social clips.
