Introduction

Send up to five references, up to three of them short clips and the rest still images, or stills alone; location, action, camera and light all come from the prompt. The result runs any whole number of seconds from 2 to 10, at 720p or 1080p, in one of five aspect ratios, as one continuous take or a multi-shot edit. Clips are silent by default; switch generate_audio on when the scene needs its own soundtrack.

Key features

Cast from stills, clips, or both

reference_image_urls takes up to five stills and reference_video_urls up to three short clips, five references in total.

The prompt names the cast

Wan identifies each reference only through the names character1, character2 and so on, in order: clips first, then stills. Name each one before describing what they do, for example character1 dancing with character2, and the model knows who is who. Everything else — the set, the action, the camera and the light — is written, so a person photographed once can be placed on a rooftop at night or a rain-soaked quay without a second shoot.

Sound as a switch, shape as a parameter

generate_audio is off by default and returns picture only; on, the clip comes back with generated voices, effects and ambience at twice the per-second rate. aspect_ratio is chosen per request: 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3 or 3:4 at either resolution. 720p returns 1280×720, 720×1280, 960×960, 1088×832 or 832×1088; 1080p returns 1920×1080, 1080×1920, 1440×1440, 1632×1248 or 1248×1632. Nothing is inherited from the references, so a vertical delivery does not need vertical sources.

Pricing

Prices are in credits, the same credits you use on the website (1 credit = $0.01). The hold is taken when the task is accepted and settled to the actual charge when it finishes; failed tasks are refunded.

Use cases

Put two people in one scene

A portrait of each person, then a prompt for where they are and what passes between them.

Move a subject into a new location

A short clip or a still of the person, then the new set, the light and the camera move. The look comes from the reference while the location is written, so one shoot supplies footage for places that were never available on the day.

Prompt guide & pro tips

Name every reference before the action

Re-describing what the references already show spends that budget and can compete with them. Use negative_prompt for what keeps turning up and should not: extra people, captions, or a prop that follows a subject into the new scene.

Pick references the model can read

Stills and clips where the subject is large in frame and well lit transfer best; a subject that stays small or backlit tends to come back only approximately. Stills carry colour and look well, while shape and motion come through more faithfully from a clip. Send images as JPEG, PNG without transparency, BMP or WEBP, 240 to 8,000 pixels on each side and up to 20 MB, and clips as MP4 or MOV.

Budget the seconds before you submit

Billable seconds are the output duration plus the reference clips, each rounded up to whole seconds and at least one second per clip, with the clips counted up to five seconds in total; still images add nothing. The rate follows the resolution and doubles with generate_audio on.

Adapt the included example

Start from the rooftop example: two stills in reference_image_urls, aspect_ratio 16:9, duration_seconds 5, resolution 720p and generate_audio on. Replace the cast and the staging while keeping that input contract intact.

Check the result before iterating

Play the whole clip rather than the first second: likeness tends to drift towards the end of the longer durations. multi mostly pays off from about 6 seconds upward, and choosing it also switches enable_prompt_expansion on for that request. Hold the seed and swap one reference at a time when comparing; it keeps the random draw constant without promising a frame-identical rerun.

API quick start

Call the Wan 2.6 Flash API in three steps

  1. Create an API key. Sign in to PopNow and create a key in the API console. Keys start with sk-popnow- and use the same credits as the website.
  2. Send the request. POST /jobs/createTask with model alibaba/wan-2.6-flash/reference-to-video and an input object that follows the parameter table. The response returns a task ID straight away.
  3. Get the result. Poll GET /jobs/recordInfo with the task ID, or pass a callBackUrl and we post the result to it. Download the output links when the task succeeds.
# 1. Create the task. Keep the Idempotency-Key if you retry after a network error.
export IDEMPOTENCY_KEY="$(uuidgen)"
curl -X POST https://api.popnow.ai/api/v1/jobs/createTask \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $POPNOW_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: $IDEMPOTENCY_KEY" \
  -d '{
  "model": "alibaba/wan-2.6-flash/reference-to-video",
  "input": {
    "prompt": "A slow aerial shot drifting over a misty pine forest at sunrise",
    "reference_video_urls": [
      "https://media.popnow.ai/effects/flower-bloom-1abd6efb.mp4"
    ],
    "aspect_ratio": "16:9",
    "resolution": "720p",
    "duration_seconds": 5,
    "shot_type": "single"
  }
}'

# 2. Copy data.taskId from the response, then poll until state is succeeded, failed, canceled or expired.
TASK_ID="TASK_ID_FROM_RESPONSE"
curl "https://api.popnow.ai/api/v1/jobs/recordInfo?taskId=$TASK_ID" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $POPNOW_API_KEY"

Replace the prompt and any links with your own. The API tab has the response, polling and callback reference.

Wan 2.6 Flash API questions

How much does the Wan 2.6 Flash API cost?

Wan 2.6 Flash starts at 17 credits ($0.17) for a 5-second clip with Reference to Video, its cheapest task. Prices by option: false · 720p 3.38 credits per second, false · 1080p 5.06 credits per second, true · 720p 6.75 credits per second, true · 1080p 10.13 credits per second. Credits are the same as on the website (1 credit = $0.01), new accounts get 30 free credits, and failed tasks are refunded.

What is the model name for Wan 2.6 Flash in the API?

Put alibaba/wan-2.6-flash/image-to-video for Image to Video; alibaba/wan-2.6-flash/reference-to-video for Reference to Video in the model field of POST /jobs/createTask.

What does multi-shot do?

With shot_type set to multi, the model may cut between several shots inside one clip. Write the prompt as numbered shots so each cut has a purpose; use single when continuity matters more. Prompt expansion is switched on for multi requests, since the cuts are planned while the brief is expanded.

Is there an aspect ratio parameter?

On reference-to-video, yes: 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3 or 3:4 at either resolution. On image-to-video, no: the proportions come from the frame you send, so crop before the call rather than looking for a field.

Does Wan 2.6 Flash generate sound?

Yes, when you ask for it. Turn generate_audio on and the clip comes back with a generated soundtrack of voices, effects and ambience, at twice the per-second rate of a silent clip. It is off by default, so a plain request returns picture only for your own sound mix.

What are the limits of the Wan 2.6 Flash API?

Clip length: 2–10 s; Resolutions: 720p · 1080p; Aspect ratios: 16:9 · 9:16 · 1:1 · 4:3 · 3:4; Reference images: 5; Reference videos: 3. Requests outside these limits are rejected before anything is charged.

Can I try Wan 2.6 Flash without writing code?

Yes. The Playground runs Wan 2.6 Flash on your PopNow credits, needs no API key, and shows the matching code for every run.
