bytedance/seedream-4.0/editFrom 5 credits per image· Edit Image

Seedream 4.0 image editing takes one to ten reference images plus an instruction and returns one image. Pick the output from sixteen width*height presets up to 4096*2304, so a restyled character keeps identical dimensions.

Call it with the model name bytedance/seedream-4.0/edit on POST /jobs/createTask, from 5 credits per image ($0.05). New accounts get 30 free credits to try it in the Playground first.

Introduction

Seedream 4.0 Image Editing revises supplied imagery with a written change request. Use it for controlled series work when character, composition or visual language should remain recognisable while one deliberate decision changes.

Key features

Image creation and source-led revision

Seedream 4.0 supports both starting from a written visual brief and revising supplied imagery. Keep those jobs separate: creation establishes a new composition, while editing is judged against the source elements it should retain.

Design work needs a reviewable hierarchy

For a graphic or campaign concept, provide checked copy and define the visual hierarchy before styling details. Review legibility, placement and factual accuracy at the intended delivery format.

A visual result is not a factual source

Use generated imagery to discuss a design direction. Do not treat an attractive result as proof of product details, dimensions or real-world claims that were not independently verified.

Pricing

Prices are in credits, the same credits you use on the website (1 credit = $0.01). The hold is taken when the task is accepted and settled to the actual charge when it finishes; failed tasks are refunded.

OptionCredits per image≈ USD
Standard4.5$0.045

Each task is rounded up to whole credits, so one run at the lowest tier costs 5 credits per image ($0.05).

For an exact number before you run, send the same body to POST /jobs/quote.

Use cases

Refine a supplied visual

Seedream 4.0 Image to Image takes one to ten reference images plus an instruction and returns a single frame at the size you name. That makes it useful for series work: the same character, restyled, delivered at the same pixel dimensions every time. Name what each reference contributes and what must stay, and pick the preset that matches the source's shape so nothing is recomposed.

Consistent characters from references

Send a face reference, a wardrobe reference and a background plate to the editing endpoint, name what each contributes, and get one frame back at the preset you chose.

Continuing work started on 4.0

Campaigns and character sets first made with Seedream 4.0 can stay on the same model instead of switching generations halfway and re-matching the style.

Prompt guide & pro tips

Write the brief, or name the references

Send one to ten image URLs in the order your prompt refers to them, and say what each contributes and what must stay.

Poll the task and keep the brief

There is no seed, so keep the references and the instruction together with any frame you want to build a series on.

Adapt the included example

Start with the published example using size: 1728*2304. Replace the subject and creative direction while keeping the input contract for this mode intact.

Keep the face, body and pose of the woman in Image 1 exactly as they are. Move her to a sunlit Mediterranean terrace with whitewashed walls and bougainvillea, relight her with warm late-afternoon sun from the left, and regrade the whole frame to soft golden tones.

One image in: the instruction protects face, body and pose, then replaces the location and the light. Name the short list that stays and the rest is open. Delivered at the tall 1728*2304 preset to keep the source's portrait shape.

Check the result before iterating

One to ten references, each needing a role named in the prompt; unnamed sources get blended. size still applies, so a reference of a different shape is recomposed into the preset you choose. Long edit chains drift, so go back to the original frame rather than re-editing an edit.

API quick start

Call the Seedream 4.0 API in three steps

  1. Create an API key. Sign in to PopNow and create a key in the API console. Keys start with sk-popnow- and use the same credits as the website.
  2. Send the request. POST /jobs/createTask with model bytedance/seedream-4.0/edit and an input object that follows the parameter table. The response returns a task ID straight away.
  3. Get the result. Poll GET /jobs/recordInfo with the task ID, or pass a callBackUrl and we post the result to it. Download the output links when the task succeeds.
# 1. Create the task. Keep the Idempotency-Key if you retry after a network error.
export IDEMPOTENCY_KEY="$(uuidgen)"
curl -X POST https://api.popnow.ai/api/v1/jobs/createTask \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $POPNOW_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: $IDEMPOTENCY_KEY" \
  -d '{
  "model": "bytedance/seedream-4.0/edit",
  "input": {
    "prompt": "A ceramic teapot on a linen cloth, soft window light, muted palette",
    "image_urls": [
      "https://media.popnow.ai/influencer/examples/marco.webp"
    ],
    "size": "2048*2048"
  }
}'

# 2. Copy data.taskId from the response, then poll until state is succeeded, failed, canceled or expired.
TASK_ID="TASK_ID_FROM_RESPONSE"
curl "https://api.popnow.ai/api/v1/jobs/recordInfo?taskId=$TASK_ID" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $POPNOW_API_KEY"

Replace the prompt and any links with your own. The API tab has the response, polling and callback reference.

Seedream 4.0 API questions

How much does the Seedream 4.0 API cost?

Seedream 4.0 starts at 5 credits ($0.05) per image with Edit Image, its cheapest task. Credits are the same as on the website (1 credit = $0.01), new accounts get 30 free credits, and failed tasks are refunded.

What is the model name for Seedream 4.0 in the API?

Put bytedance/seedream-4.0/text-to-image for Create Image; bytedance/seedream-4.0/edit for Edit Image in the model field of POST /jobs/createTask.

How is Seedream 4.0 different from 5.0 Lite?

4.0 is the earlier generation. 5.0 Lite adds a jpeg or png choice but offers only eight presets, all at the 2K tier; 4.0 keeps sixteen presets from a 1024*1024 square up to 4096*2304, and its own rendering style. Pick 4.0 when you need the larger frames or are matching work already made with it.

How many reference images can an edit take?

Up to ten. Name each one's role in the prompt — unnamed references get blended — and remember that size still applies to the result.

Is there a seed for reproducible results?

No. Neither endpoint exposes one, so identical requests return different frames. Keep the prompt stored alongside any image you plan to reuse.

Can I choose JPEG or PNG?

No. This model has no file-format field, so the image comes back in the format the model delivers. Convert it downstream if your pipeline needs a specific format.

What are the limits of the Seedream 4.0 API?

Reference images: 10. Requests outside these limits are rejected before anything is charged.

Can I try Seedream 4.0 without writing code?

Yes. The Playground runs Seedream 4.0 on your PopNow credits, needs no API key, and shows the matching code for every run.

All Seedream models

Seedream 5.0 Pro and Lite are the newer generation with finer material detail; 4.0 keeps its own look and the largest sizes.
