About Video Upscaler
Upscale a 3–60 second clip to 720p, 1080p, 2K or 4K. Length, motion and the audio track are kept; the picture comes back larger and cleaner.
Call it with the model name popnow/video-upscaler-v1/upscale on POST /jobs/createTask, from 0.9 credits per second ($0.009). New accounts get 30 free credits to try it in the Playground first.
Introduction
Video Upscaler takes a finished clip and returns it at a higher resolution tier. It is a resolution pass, not an editor: framing, motion, cuts, timing and the original audio track all stay as sent. There is no prompt.
Request
{
"video_url": "https://example.com/clip.mp4",
"resolution": "1080p"
}Only video_url is required. resolution defaults to 1080p; the other tiers are 720p, 2k and 4k.
What comes back
The tier is a pixel budget and the aspect ratio is kept. An 832×480 clip came back at 1896×1094 at 1080p after about 33 seconds of processing, and at 3792×2188 at 4k after about 103 seconds; a 5-second 4k MP4 is around 19 MB. An 854×480 clip with an AAC soundtrack came back at 1922×1080 with the same track. In every test the running length matched the source to the frame.
Task flow
The call is asynchronous.
Tips
- Upscale the final cut, after every edit.
- Pick a tier above the clip's current resolution.
- Use a direct link to the video file.
- Start from the cleanest source you have: compression blocks and noise are enlarged too.

API quick start
Call the Video Upscaler API in three steps
- Create an API key. Sign in to PopNow and create a key in the API console. Keys start with sk-popnow- and use the same credits as the website.
- Send the request. POST /jobs/createTask with model popnow/video-upscaler-v1/upscale and an input object that follows the parameter table. The response returns a task ID straight away.
- Get the result. Poll GET /jobs/recordInfo with the task ID, or pass a callBackUrl and we post the result to it. Download the output links when the task succeeds.
# 1. Create the task. Keep the Idempotency-Key if you retry after a network error.
export IDEMPOTENCY_KEY="$(uuidgen)"
curl -X POST https://api.popnow.ai/api/v1/jobs/createTask \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $POPNOW_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: $IDEMPOTENCY_KEY" \
-d '{
"model": "popnow/video-upscaler-v1/upscale",
"input": {
"video_url": "https://media.popnow.ai/effects/flower-bloom-1abd6efb.mp4",
"resolution": "1080p"
}
}'
# 2. Copy data.taskId from the response, then poll until state is succeeded, failed, canceled or expired.
TASK_ID="TASK_ID_FROM_RESPONSE"
curl "https://api.popnow.ai/api/v1/jobs/recordInfo?taskId=$TASK_ID" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $POPNOW_API_KEY"Replace the prompt and any links with your own. The API tab has the response, polling and callback reference.
Video Upscaler API questions
How much does the Video Upscaler API cost?
Video Upscaler costs 0.9 credits ($0.009) per second. Prices by option: 1080p 0.9 credits per second, 720p 0.9 credits per second, 2K 1.8 credits per second, 4K 3.6 credits per second. Credits are the same as on the website (1 credit = $0.01), new accounts get 30 free credits, and failed tasks are refunded.
What is the model name for Video Upscaler in the API?
Put popnow/video-upscaler-v1/upscale for Upscale Video in the model field of POST /jobs/createTask.
Does it keep my audio and timing?
Yes. An 854×480 clip with an AAC soundtrack came back at 1922×1080 with the same track, and in every test the running length matched the source to the frame.
Why is my 1080p result not exactly 1920×1080?
The tier is a pixel budget and the clip's aspect ratio is kept. An 832×480 clip came back at 1896×1094 at 1080p and 3792×2188 at 4K; a vertical clip comes back tall.
Will it change the motion or what happens on screen?
No. It is a resolution pass: framing, motion, cuts and timing stay as sent. To change the content, edit or regenerate first and upscale last.
What are the limits of the Video Upscaler API?
Resolutions: 720p · 1080p · 2K · 4K. Requests outside these limits are rejected before anything is charged.
Can I try Video Upscaler without writing code?
Yes. The Playground runs Video Upscaler on your PopNow credits, needs no API key, and shows the matching code for every run.
