About Celebrity Look-Alike
Celebrity Look-Alike takes a single portrait and returns a generated frame of the closest celebrity match. One image field, no prompt and no parameters: it is a one-call feature for entertainment and social products, not an identification tool.
Call it with the model name popnow/look-alike-v1/edit on POST /jobs/createTask, from 8 credits per image ($0.08). New accounts get 30 free credits to try it in the Playground first.
Introduction
It takes a single portrait and returns a generated image of the closest celebrity look-alike. There is no prompt and no parameter surface: the photo is the entire input.
It is built as a one-call feature for entertainment and social products, not as an identification tool.
Key features
One photo in, one frame back — there is nothing else to send
The whole request is a single image URL. There is no prompt, no seed, no size and no strength, so the picture you upload is the only thing that moves the result.
A generated frame, not a name and not a score
The response carries one image and nothing else: no celebrity name, no ranked list of candidates, no similarity percentage. Whatever sits next to the frame is copy you wrote, not a claim the model made, and that is the safer way round. Build the moment on the frame itself — show it, let people share it, and resist putting a number beside it.
When you decide whether you may use it, treat it as face recognition
The input is always a real person's face, which puts this endpoint under likeness and biometric rules that nothing else in this catalog touches. Biometric data is separately regulated in the European Union and in parts of the United States, and the consent bar there can be high. Send only photos the subject knowingly agreed to — never a public figure's, never images taken from somewhere else — and never use it for identification, verification, surveillance or to build a face database. Nothing that comes back is a factual statement about a real person; uploaded source images are deleted after one day and generated results after 14.
Request parameters
| Parameter | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
image_url | Yes | The picture to start from. |
Pricing
Prices are in credits, the same credits you use on the website (1 credit = $0.01). The hold is taken when the task is accepted and settled to the actual charge when it finishes; failed tasks are refunded.
| Option | Credits per image | ≈ USD |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 7.5 | $0.075 |
Each task is rounded up to whole credits, so one run at the lowest tier costs 8 credits per image ($0.08).
For an exact number before you run, send the same body to POST /jobs/quote.
Use cases
One upload, one frame to share
Use this endpoint when the product moment is a single photo upload followed by a generated frame to share. Send the portrait as image_url, poll the task and show the image that comes back; there is no name or score to display beside it.
Entertainment and social features
The 'which celebrity do you look like' interaction, as one API call behind a photo upload. It is a shareable moment inside a consumer app rather than a production tool.
Campaign mechanics
A lightweight interactive step in a marketing flow — upload a selfie, get a frame back to share.
Photo and beauty apps
A novelty feature alongside existing portrait tools. It needs no prompt engineering and no parameter surface, so it drops into an app with a single form field.
Prompt guide & pro tips
Expect an image, not a verdict
The endpoint returns a generated frame, not a name, a ranking or a similarity score. If your product needs a label, you have to present the frame itself — the API gives you nothing else to display.
Send one clear, frontal portrait
A single well-lit face, roughly facing the camera, filling a reasonable part of the frame. Group shots, heavy profiles, sunglasses, motion blur and very small faces are where the match degrades or the call fails outright.
Check the result before iterating
One face per image, roughly frontal and clearly lit. Profile angles, occlusion (sunglasses, hands, hair across the face), motion blur and very small faces degrade the match or fail the call. There is no prompt, no mask, no strength and no seed: if the output is wrong, the only fix is a different photo. The response is an image and nothing else — no name, no ranking, no confidence value.
API quick start
Call the Celebrity Look-Alike API in three steps
- Create an API key. Sign in to PopNow and create a key in the API console. Keys start with sk-popnow- and use the same credits as the website.
- Send the request. POST /jobs/createTask with model popnow/look-alike-v1/edit and an input object that follows the parameter table. The response returns a task ID straight away.
- Get the result. Poll GET /jobs/recordInfo with the task ID, or pass a callBackUrl and we post the result to it. Download the output links when the task succeeds.
# 1. Create the task. Keep the Idempotency-Key if you retry after a network error.
export IDEMPOTENCY_KEY="$(uuidgen)"
curl -X POST https://api.popnow.ai/api/v1/jobs/createTask \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $POPNOW_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: $IDEMPOTENCY_KEY" \
-d '{
"model": "popnow/look-alike-v1/edit",
"input": {
"image_url": "https://media.popnow.ai/influencer/examples/marco.webp"
}
}'
# 2. Copy data.taskId from the response, then poll until state is succeeded, failed, canceled or expired.
TASK_ID="TASK_ID_FROM_RESPONSE"
curl "https://api.popnow.ai/api/v1/jobs/recordInfo?taskId=$TASK_ID" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $POPNOW_API_KEY"Replace the prompt and any links with your own. The API tab has the response, polling and callback reference.
Celebrity Look-Alike API questions
How much does the Celebrity Look-Alike API cost?
Celebrity Look-Alike costs 8 credits ($0.08) per image. Credits are the same as on the website (1 credit = $0.01), new accounts get 30 free credits, and failed tasks are refunded.
What is the model name for Celebrity Look-Alike in the API?
Put popnow/look-alike-v1/edit for Face Swap in the model field of POST /jobs/createTask.
What exactly comes back?
One generated image. The endpoint does not return a celebrity name, a list of candidates or a similarity percentage, so anything your product displays has to be built around the frame itself.
Does it work on group photos?
No. Send one face per request. With several faces in frame there is no way to say which person you meant, and the result becomes arbitrary.
Can I tune the result?
No. There is no prompt, no seed, no size and no format control. The photo you send is the only input that changes the outcome.
Is this face recognition?
Treat it as such when you decide whether you may use it. It takes a real person's face as input, which puts it under biometric and likeness rules in several jurisdictions regardless of how the feature is framed in your product. Use it only with the subject's consent, and read the Limits section before shipping.
Can I use it on photos of celebrities or public figures?
Don't. Sending a public figure's photo, or presenting the output as a statement about a real person, is where likeness and publicity rights are infringed. The intended input is a consenting user's own portrait.
Can I try Celebrity Look-Alike without writing code?
Yes. The Playground runs Celebrity Look-Alike on your PopNow credits, needs no API key, and shows the matching code for every run.
