About Image Upscaler
Enlarge a finished image to 2K, 4K or 8K in one call. Send the picture and pick a size tier; the composition stays exactly as it was, and there is no prompt to write.
Call it with the model name popnow/image-upscaler-v1/upscale on POST /jobs/createTask, from 2 credits per image ($0.02). New accounts get 30 free credits to try it in the Playground first.
Introduction
Image Upscaler enlarges one finished image to a 2k, 4k or 8k size tier and sharpens it on the way. The picture itself does not change: composition, colours and subject stay exactly as sent. There is no prompt and nothing to tune beyond the size and the file format.
Request
{
"image_url": "https://example.com/product.png",
"resolution": "4k",
"output_format": "jpeg"
}Only image_url is required. resolution defaults to 4k and output_format to jpeg.
How the size tiers behave
The tier is a pixel budget, not a fixed canvas, and the aspect ratio is always kept. A 1024×1536 photo came back at 1672×2508 at 2k, 3344×5017 at 4k and 6689×10033 at 8k, each in about 45 seconds. A source that is already larger than the tier is scaled down: a 3344×5017 image sent at 2k came back at 1672×2509.
Task flow
The call is asynchronous. One image comes back per request.
Tips
- Pick a tier above the source's pixel count.
- Upscale last, after every edit, so later steps do not have to process the larger file.
- Start from the cleanest source available: compression artifacts and blur are enlarged too.
- Use
jpegunless you need lossless output. Our 8k jpeg was about 8 MB; apngis several times larger.
Request parameters
| Parameter | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
image_url | Yes | The picture to start from. |
output_format | No | File type of the result. jpeg · png · webp · Default: jpeg |
resolution | No | Output size. Bigger sizes look sharper and cost more. 2k · 4k · 8k · Default: 4k |
Pricing
Prices are in credits, the same credits you use on the website (1 credit = $0.01). The hold is taken when the task is accepted and settled to the actual charge when it finishes; failed tasks are refunded.
| Option | Credits per image | ≈ USD |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 1.8 | $0.018 |
Each task is rounded up to whole credits, so one run at the lowest tier costs 2 credits per image ($0.02).
For an exact number before you run, send the same body to POST /jobs/quote.
API quick start
Call the Image Upscaler API in three steps
- Create an API key. Sign in to PopNow and create a key in the API console. Keys start with sk-popnow- and use the same credits as the website.
- Send the request. POST /jobs/createTask with model popnow/image-upscaler-v1/upscale and an input object that follows the parameter table. The response returns a task ID straight away.
- Get the result. Poll GET /jobs/recordInfo with the task ID, or pass a callBackUrl and we post the result to it. Download the output links when the task succeeds.
# 1. Create the task. Keep the Idempotency-Key if you retry after a network error.
export IDEMPOTENCY_KEY="$(uuidgen)"
curl -X POST https://api.popnow.ai/api/v1/jobs/createTask \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $POPNOW_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: $IDEMPOTENCY_KEY" \
-d '{
"model": "popnow/image-upscaler-v1/upscale",
"input": {
"image_url": "https://media.popnow.ai/influencer/examples/marco.webp",
"resolution": "4k",
"output_format": "jpeg"
}
}'
# 2. Copy data.taskId from the response, then poll until state is succeeded, failed, canceled or expired.
TASK_ID="TASK_ID_FROM_RESPONSE"
curl "https://api.popnow.ai/api/v1/jobs/recordInfo?taskId=$TASK_ID" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $POPNOW_API_KEY"Replace the prompt and any links with your own. The API tab has the response, polling and callback reference.
Image Upscaler API questions
How much does the Image Upscaler API cost?
Image Upscaler costs 2 credits ($0.02) per image. Credits are the same as on the website (1 credit = $0.01), new accounts get 30 free credits, and failed tasks are refunded.
What is the model name for Image Upscaler in the API?
Put popnow/image-upscaler-v1/upscale for Upscale Image in the model field of POST /jobs/createTask.
What do 2k, 4k and 8k mean?
They are pixel budgets, not fixed canvases: the image keeps its aspect ratio and is resized to about 4, 17 or 67 megapixels. A 1024×1536 photo came back at 1672×2508, 3344×5017 and 6689×10033.
Can it make my image smaller?
Yes, if the tier is below the source. A 3344×5017 image sent at 2k came back at 1672×2509. Pick a tier above your image's current pixel count.
Will it change what is in the picture?
No. Composition, colours and the subject stay as sent; edges and textures are sharpened and fine detail is filled in. To change the content, run an edit model first and upscale the result last.
Which output format should I pick?
jpeg, the default, keeps files manageable: our 8k test came back at about 8 MB. png is lossless but several times larger — a 4k png of an ordinary photo is already around 16 MB. webp sits in between.
Can it rescue tiny text or a blurred face?
Only partly. It sharpens what the source contains; detail the source never captured is invented, so unreadable lettering can come back as plausible shapes rather than the original words. Start from the cleanest version you have.
What are the limits of the Image Upscaler API?
Resolutions: 2K · 4K · 8K. Requests outside these limits are rejected before anything is charged.
Can I try Image Upscaler without writing code?
Yes. The Playground runs Image Upscaler on your PopNow credits, needs no API key, and shows the matching code for every run.
